Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is urging adventurous teams to act quickly, with only a handful of places remaining for its flagship endurance fundraising challenge, Race Across the UK (RATUK) 2026.
Taking place from 6–9 October 2026, the four-day challenge sees teams of two race from RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall to Inverness, navigating the length of the UK without cars, planes or map apps. Armed only with a paper map, determination and what they can carry on their backs, participants must rely on teamwork, resilience and quick thinking to reach each checkpoint.
With demand for this year’s event proving stronger than ever, prospective participants are being encouraged to secure one of the remaining places before registration closes.
Whether taking on the challenge with a partner, friend, sibling or colleague, teams will experience an unforgettable adventure while raising vital funds to support Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel, veterans and their families.
Among those encouraging others to sign up are Helensburgh couple Natalie and Kris Lewis, who completed last year’s challenge, racing from Edinburgh to Dartmouth.
“I signed up and dragged Kris along for the ride,” laughs Natalie. “It was about doing things for a good cause whilst having a good time, and just being Kris and Natalie.”
The husband-and-wife team say the experience exceeded every expectation
“Do it, 100%,” says Kris. “It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long, long time. Just don’t take it too seriously. There is that competitive element, but you can also just enjoy the ride.”
Natalie added:
“We’ve seen first-hand the difference RNRMC makes. From the first day of service to life beyond the military, RNRMC is there, providing support that’s both meaningful and lasting. Their work strengthens the Naval family, and we’re proud to play even a small part in helping them continue that mission.”
Teams taking part are encouraged to raise £3,000, helping RNRMC continue its vital work supporting serving personnel, veterans and families through recovery programmes, wellbeing initiatives, practical assistance and family support.
Race Across the UK is designed to test endurance, problem-solving and teamwork, but previous participants often describe the friendships, camaraderie and shared sense of purpose as the most rewarding part of the experience.
Those hoping to take part are encouraged not to delay.
