A confidence-building 1 day introduction to self-employment, helping Forces families understand the fundamentals of business, legal basics, and what to expect from the journey ahead.

This programme is designed for Partners and Spouses of Service Personnel, Veterans and Reservists, fully funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund, Landmarc Solutions and Pinnacle Service Families.
Behind every uniform is a partner or spouse who adapts, relocates, reinvents, and keeps going. Whether you’re exploring the idea of self-employment or already have a business in mind, this Business Start-Up Programme is designed with you in mind, your lifestyle and your ambitions.
Delivered in a safe and welcoming environment, this workshop will help you explore what self-employment really looks like, including the opportunities and challenges that enable your business to move with you, not against you.
What You’ll Learn:
Over a series of online workshops, you’ll gain an insight into:
- Understand the realities of self-employment: Gain clarity on what success looks like for you, including the benefits, risks, and practical considerations of working for yourself.
- Build a clear and credible business plan: Learn how planning drives business success, identifying customers, competitors, market trends, and sustainable growth opportunities.
- Create confident, effective marketing communications: Apply proven marketing models, segmentation strategies, and messaging that connects you to the right audience.
- Build a strong business identity: Develop a clear sense of who you are in business, what you stand for, and how to communicate this consistently and confidently to your audience.
- Strengthen your business foundations: Understand legal structures, tax responsibilities, and essential bookkeeping, so you can run your business with confidence and control.
- Grow confidence, networks, and long-term resilience: Enhance your networking skills, build peer connections, and plan for a business that can adapt to the realities of military life.

Upon completion of this workshop, you can advance to join the 2-day Business Discovery Workshop.
Notes on joining the workshop
- Don’t be shy! We encourage engagement and interactions with our trainers and other joiners who would help you make the best out of the session.
- The session will be delivered via Teams or Zoom. You will need access to a laptop or tablet with camera and microphone, internet access and a quiet space.
- We will send you the meeting link, joining instructions and necessary material one day before the session. Check your junk mail as well if you didn’t receive it.
- Please join 10 minutes prior so we can welcome you properly!
