Mia Bloomfield and Sophie McPherson, members of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo team, are preparing to swap event planning for adventure this October as they take on Race Across the UK in support of Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
The pair were inspired to take part through their work with the Tattoo, which has a long-standing commitment to supporting military charities and the Armed Forces community.
Speaking about their motivation for joining the challenge, the team said:
“Through our work with the Tattoo, we see first-hand the impact that military charities like RNRMC have on service personnel, veterans and their families. That connection inspired us to get more involved in a more active and personal way. Race Across the UK felt like a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and support a cause that aligns closely with the values at the heart of what we do, whilst challenging ourselves and having a bit of fun.”
As they prepare for the event, Mia and Sophie believe the mental aspects of the challenge may prove the toughest. With participants facing a series of unknown tasks and obstacles along the route, staying adaptable, focused and motivated will be key to success.
Alongside the race itself, the duo is particularly looking forward to meeting fellow fundraisers and sharing the experience with others who are passionate about supporting the Royal Navy and Royal Marines community. They are also excited to take part in the unique challenges that await them and create lasting memories along the way.
To help reach their fundraising target, the pair have organised a packed calendar of activities, including a movie night, quiz and games night, bingo challenges and a bake sale. Throughout the challenge, they will proudly represent The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and its strong military heritage.
Reflecting on why supporting RNRMC matters, they added:
“Through our work with The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, we’ve seen how important charities like RNRMC are to the Armed Forces community. Supporting them means being part of something bigger and helping ensure that service personnel and their families are never without support.”
The team are also encouraging others to step outside their comfort zones and get involved in fundraising opportunities, highlighting the chance to challenge yourself, meet new people and make a meaningful difference to causes that matter.
