Youth Music Project gets youth at Culdrose Community Centre moving their feet.

For the young people taking part in the Youth Music Project at the Culdrose Community Centre, music has become a powerful way to express themselves, learn new skills and build confidence. Through song writing, recording and music video production, participants have had the opportunity to explore their creativity while working together to create something they can be proud of.

With support from Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), the project has been able to provide young people with valuable hands-on experiences in music and media production. Funding from the charity enabled the purchase of a camera that has played a key role in documenting the project and helping participants develop new technical skills.

The group’s first project focused on song writing and music video production. Working collaboratively, the young people wrote and recorded an original song called “Move Your Feet.” Participants contributed ideas, developed lyrics and recorded vocals before working together to bring the finished track to life.

Once the recording was complete, attention turned to producing a music video. Young people were filmed taking part in outdoor water games at the Culdrose Community Centre playground, creating a fun and energetic backdrop for the project. Members of the community centre team joined in the activities, helping to create a positive and supportive environment that encouraged participation and teamwork.

The finished video also featured Royal Navy personnel dancing to the song, strengthening connections between the young people and the wider military community. The camera funded through RNRMC support enabled the team to capture these moments and create a professional-quality music video that celebrated the young people’s hard work and creativity.

Beyond producing a song and video, the project has helped participants develop a wide range of skills. Young people have gained experience in song writing, music production, recording and filming, while also building confidence, communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Reflecting on the impact of the funding, project lead Carlos said:

“We are extremely grateful to the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity for supporting our youth music project and helping us provide valuable and engaging creative opportunities for young people in our community.

Your support has made a real difference by giving the young people access to equipment, experiences and opportunities that allow them to express themselves creatively and develop new skills.

Thank you once again for your generous support.”

Building on the success of the first project, the programme will continue from September 2026 to August 2027, offering further opportunities for young people to develop their skills in song writing, recording, music production, mixing and mastering. The camera purchased through RNRMC funding will continue to be used to document their progress and celebrate their achievements.

The Youth Music Project demonstrates how access to creative opportunities can have a lasting impact on young people. With support from the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity, participants are not only developing musical and technical skills but also gaining confidence, building friendships and discovering new ways to share their voices with the world.
