Amanda Shepard confirmed as Chief Executive of The Poppy Factory

The Poppy Factory has confirmed Amanda Shepard as its new Chief Executive, following the completion of an extensive recruitment process by the Board of Trustees.

Amanda, who joined The Poppy Factory in 2019 and has led the charity as Interim Chief Executive since January 2023, moves into the permanent role with effect from July 1.

In her previous role as Director of Fundraising and Communications, Amanda transformed the Poppy Factory’s fundraising strategy and led the successful transformation of the team, improving performance in income generation to fund employment services for veterans with health conditions and their families.

Amanda’s professional background encompasses income generation and fundraising, organisation strategy and development.  She brings a wealth of experience gained from over 20 years in the not-for-profit sector, working as consultant and in senior roles at The Princes Trust, BBC Children in Need and the Institute of Fundraising.

Al Kett, Chairman of The Poppy Factory, said:

“As Interim Chief Executive Amanda has provided stability while continuing excellent progress in delivery of The Poppy Factory’s strategic plan. I and the Board are confident that with her experience, her skills and her proven track record of results, Amanda is the ideal person to lead our charity to further success, ensuring that The Poppy Factory continues to deliver its mission and objectives to improve the lives of the veterans it serves.”

Amanda Shepard, Chief Executive of The Poppy Factory, said:

“I am delighted to have been confirmed as Chief Executive by the Board of Trustees. It has been an honour to lead the work of The Poppy Factory over the last six months, overseeing the launch of new services that have expanded our capability to support veterans with health conditions and their families across England and Wales.

“We have a fantastic team that delivers outstanding services for the Armed Forces community, and I am proud to lead The Poppy Factory as we continue to help veterans and their families navigate the challenges of today and of the future.”
