From Military to Media – A New Career Beckons

The Forces Media Academy (FMA) is offering talented veterans and service leavers the opportunity to study a FREE one-year HNC course (equivalent to the first year of a degree) in Creative Media Production to gain access to a new career in an exciting and dynamic industry.

The course is taught at BFBS’ headquarters (also home to forces.net and Forces TV). Students will have the opportunity to work in a live media environment with award-winning media teams, alongside the programme of lectures. Additional funding to help students with their living and travel expenses may be available.

Career Opportunities

The FMA has strong connections with the media, broadcasting and digital industries, which generates quality work experience and career opportunities.

This course produces highly employable graduates who go on to forge successful careers in their chosen field. The FMA’s Principal, June MacMahon says:

“The students develop a professional skillset whilst covering a range of course modules designed to progress key skills in different areas of the media. The course is delivered by subject specialists from the media industry and academia – and the core curriculum is supported by a comprehensive work placement and masterclass programme. This has enabled graduate success rates to reach over 85% employment within the media industry. Examples include an ex-helicopter pilot who is now a Duty Operations Manager at Pinewood Studios, and an ex-military police officer who is now working as a Social Media Officer for a flagship military charity.”

We are currently recruiting for our next intake – September 2020. No previous media experience is necessary – all we ask is that you have the aptitude and attitude and an eagerness to learn. We provide support and mentoring, including for those with injuries and health challenges.
