Fresh out of this year’s Love Island the ‘loyal’ Georgia Steel is put through her paces as she participates in a series of military vehicle skills tests for new radio programme, ‘On Track with Forces Radio BFBS’ which airs on 6th November at 6pm.
Joined by Stuart Pearce MBE and radio presenter Jenni Falconer, Georgia and her fellow celebrities are put to the test by a certified tank driver to see who would be the best equipped for a career change. With the tank driver having little faith in their success, Georgia surprises everyone as she passes all three tasks and triumphs over her celebrity competition – demonstrating that she might actually cut the mustard in the British military…
To hear Georgia as she is put through her paces, listeners can tune into a new ‘fusion’ music and military programme – Georgina Steel On Track with Forces Radio BFBS on 6th November. The show offers an entertaining and in-depth insight into the what happened when the three celebrities were sent on a military vehicle driving course to mark Forces Radio BFBS being available to a wider audience on DAB+, as well as other existing platforms.
In her radio show Georgia discusses her respect for the military, her experience driving military vehicles for the day and of course, Love Island. She also chooses the music in the show, an eclectic mix of tracks that mean something special to her.
On Love Island Georgia says that she “knew something amazing in her life would happen but didn’t know it would happen at 20 years old.”
She also discusses her growing respect for the Armed Forces after spending the day with Forces Radio BFBS “I worry about the little things in life when really there’s people out there driving military vehicles for their job and it just makes you realise how insignificant the little things in life are.”
The military radio network tasked the reality star with the mission of manoeuvring the Lance Armoured Vehicle through thick, muddy water, balancing a FV 432 on a knife edge and driving an Abbot Self Propelled Gun round a gruelling course, in an attempt to pass a set of super challenging tank driving skills. The tasks gave Georgia an exclusive insight into the incredible expertise that the British military demonstrate all over the world.
The three skill tests:
* The Abbot Course – Georgia went for a rough ride as she jerked around the Abbot Course testing her driving skills whilst navigating sinking mud, submerging puddles and jarring drops; all the while being interviewed by presenters Amy Casey and Jay James for the radio series. The Abbot Course is a track used for teaching people how to drive an Abbot Self Propelled Gun.
* The Swim – Completely under pressure and in a battle against the clock and deepening water, Georgia used the Lance Armoured Vehicle to ‘swim’ through deep water testing Georgia’s precision and efficiency at her new-found skills.
* The Knife Edge Balance – Love Island’s ‘real’ Georgia Steel, used extreme concentration to balance the front of a FV 432 off a small ledge, ensuring she had the perfect equilibrium making certain the military vehicle did not drop off the edge.
Adding another degree of complexity to the challenge, Georgia Steel was interviewed by Forces Radio BFBS presenters Amy Casey and Jay James whilst attempting the Abbot Course section of the skills test.
Georgia Steel commented, ‘’I think the British Forces are life-savers. And all I want to say to the Armed Forces is a huge thank you – it’s really important what they do and everyone is hugely proud. Spending the day with Forces Radio BFBS driving military vehicles was great to have a small taste of what our Armed Forces have to do every day.’’
