Greenwich Hospital has awarded £275,900 over 3 years to strengthen the Naval Families Federation’s Immigration Advice Service for serving Royal Navy personnel and their families

Greenwich Hospital has awarded a £275,900 grant to the Naval Families Federation (NFF) to expand its Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) staffing to enhance support for Royal Navy families navigating complex immigration challenges.

This three-year grant represents an important step in strengthening the resilience and wellbeing of Royal Navy families, given that immigration issues can affect financial stability, family life, and service retention. By funding specialist expertise within the NFF, Greenwich Hospital is helping serving families secure timely and accurate advice when needed.

A core aim of the funding is to help individuals access available support more easily. The NFF will track outcomes, and reporting will focus on cases processed, resolved, and closed, showing tangible improvements in access and service delivery.

The NFF will share data insights, emerging themes, and case studies with the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office via Cobseo, and the Royal Navy People Retention teams to help build an evidence base for policy and decision-making.

Deirdre Mills, Director of Greenwich Hospital, said:

“Greenwich Hospital’s funding award reflects our commitment to supporting the Royal Navy community and enhancing family wellbeing. By strengthening the NFF’s capacity to deliver expert advice and advocacy, we’re ensuring that families from overseas who choose to serve our country receive the advice and support they need. This partnership removes barriers, champions inclusivity, and empowers Royal Navy families.”

Sarah Clewes, Chief Executive Officer of the Naval Families Federation, said:

“This funding from Greenwich Hospital enables the NFF to stay responsive and adaptable to naval families’ changing needs around immigration status and its impact. It will help us to continue to boost engagement, advice on policy, gather evidence, and most importantly, bring families together.”

As an independent charity, the NFF operates nationwide, acting as a critical friend to the Royal Navy to shape change, advocate for naval families and connect them to the naval charity network for vital services.
