For the people who serve and work at HMS Sultan, the support of family, friends and colleagues plays an important role throughout the year. Families Day provided an opportunity to recognise that support, bringing the whole HMS Sultan community together for an afternoon of fun, connection and celebration.
Held on Thursday 6 August, the annual event welcomed serving personnel, civilian staff, contractors, trainees and their families onto the establishment. It was one of the few occasions where everyone could come together away from the demands of daily life and enjoy time with those who matter most.
Families enjoyed a wide range of free activities throughout the afternoon, including inflatable games and challenges, face painting, a petting zoo, live music, children’s entertainment, departmental stands and service charity stalls. Food was also available, with donations helping to offset costs through the Central Amenities Fund.
The event gave the Commanding Officer and Command Team the opportunity to thank personnel for their dedication and commitment throughout the year, while creating space for colleagues, trainees and families to connect in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
This year’s Families Day was particularly significant as it formed part of HMS Sultan’s 70th anniversary celebrations. By bringing together serving personnel, trainees, civilian staff and their loved ones, the event helped strengthen morale across the establishment and celebrated the people who make HMS Sultan the community it is.
The Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, Captain Mark Hamilton, said:
