The local Plymouth Moor View MP, Johnny Mercer, will be opening the 10 mile March for Veterans walk in Plymouth which is taking place to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.
The walk takes place on Saturday 28 March along a section of the South West Coastal Path passing Fort Bovisand and Heybrook Bay. It is one of the 14 walks that the charity have organised across the country over the month of March.
Johnny says:
“I am delighted to be opening the March for Veterans walk in Plymouth. As Minister for Veterans and a Veteran myself, this cause is close to my heart. I wish all walkers a fun, dry day and success in their fundraising efforts.”
The walk will start at 10am and begin at the Jennycliff Café in Jennycliff Lane. Blind veteran, John Evans, 65 and from Exeter, will be among those braving the 10 mile walk in order to raise money for the charity that have been supporting him since 2012. John says:
“I have done similar events before for the charity which is great because it keeps me active. It’s important to take part and raise funds for Blind Veterans UK as it helps them support veterans like me. The charity have helped me learn how to live with blindness and have introduced me to lots of technology designed for people with visual impairments. I’m getting back to living a near normal life.”
