Residents from the charity’s Homes held a series of events during Armed Forces Week (20-27 June) which culminated in Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June.

Harry Hitch enjoyed a family gathering at Royal Star & Garter on Sunday 14 June, before having a party with fellow residents, arranged by staff at the Home, on his birthday the following day.

A former charity trustee has received a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours, published on 13 June, in recognition of his work supporting the Armed Forces community.

A resident has reminisced about her lifetime of charity work and spoken about the important role volunteers play at the care home she lives at.

The 99-year-old was speaking during a respite stay at Royal Star & Garter in Surbiton, and ahead of the 82nd anniversary of D-Day on 6 June.

Jules Walker, a Project Support Officer for the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF), works with participating care homes to integrate the Framework into practical action, and has won the Service Champion Award from the Armed Forces Network (AFN).
