Alabaré are delighted to be marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a community celebration – ‘Petals for Peace’
The South West-based charity that supports today’s vulnerable Armed Forces Veterans are calling on schools, churches, community groups and craft-minded individuals to create displays of ‘Petals for Peace’ made up from individual flowers during the run-up to VE 75 Day (8-10th May).
The petals will contain messages of peace, thanks and celebration. Groups and individuals are invited to place their Petals for Peace in a joint community display in St. Thomas’s Church, Salisbury or to create their own display as a focal point for their celebrations.
The St Thomas’s exhibition will be open to the public over the Bank Holiday weekend, where visitors can see the colourful displays and pay their respects as we celebrate 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of war in Europe.
Alabaré patron, General The Lord Dannatt GCB, CBE, MC, DL said;
“The 75th anniversary of VE Day marks an important moment as we commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe. We feel that it is necessary to mark this momentous occasion with a celebration that not only reflects on those who sacrificed so much then but also helps to support Veterans in need now.”
All donations received from Petals for Peace will help fund Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans, our charity’s homes and specialist support for ex-Forces personnel who are homeless or living in crisis today. By supporting Petals for Peace, you will be helping those who have given so much, regain their health, independence and build themselves a new future.
