Scotty’s Little Soldiers – Youth Worker Engagement Lead

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Permanent, full time role. Remote or Office based. £27,000 per annum. Unlimited holiday.

Would you like to make a difference by working with young adults who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the military?

Scotty’s Little Soldiers are a £1.5m UK national charity which provides specialist support for bereaved military children and young people (aged 0-25). We’re currently supporting over 600 children and young people and have a long-term goal to be supporting over 1,000 annually by 2030. We will need to grow our income streams to around £3m to achieve this. We deliver 4 Family Programmes; SMILES, SUPPORT, STRIDES and SPRINGBOARD, which provide a range of emotional and educational support for bereaved military families.

Our SPRINGBOARD programme launched in 2020, specifically to support the needs of young adults who have experienced the death of a parent. We are keen to further develop the service that Springboarders receive and are looking to recruit a Youth Worker Programme Lead. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced youth worker or someone with experience of working with young adults, to take on an informal education role to support young people aged 18-25. The majority of our work is conducted virtually rather than in-person, so we’re looking for someone who can think of creative ways to engage our Springboarders.

The successful applicant would be responsible for:

  • Developing a programme of activities and opportunities for our bereaved military young adults and communicating these effectively to our 18-25s.
  • Recruiting new Springboarders (young adults) so they can benefit from our unique military community.
  • Providing information and guidance on bereavement, careers advice and guidance, personal development and training opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing a ‘Scotty’s buddy’ mentor scheme to encourage volunteering opportunities with younger members within the charity.
  • Developing relationships with external partners from military, educational, learning and development and commercial communities to offer skills workshops, motivational talks and training sessions.

If working remotely, there is an expectation that you will be in the office up to 12 days per annum for team meetings and training sessions. This role will also require you to travel to various events and locations, so a full, clean driving licence is essential.
