***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

£34,125 per annum

30 Hours per week pro rata

Home Based

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a part-time Senior Social Work Practitioner to join the Adoption team at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, supports the person behind the uniform; any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us. Every year, SSAFA helps more than 82,000 people from the Forces family to get back on their feet; those currently serving, reserves, veterans and their families. Support is there for people at any stage in their military career; from the youngest recruit to the oldest veteran – no one’s service is ever forgotten. We give hope, help and personal support for as long as it takes to get that person’s life back to where they want it to be.

About the team

SSAFA Adoption Service is a registered independent adoption agency. Assessed as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, we have a small but experienced team whose work includes the recruitment, assessment, and approval of prospective adopters and, through collaborative working with local authorities, the placement of children from the Looked After Children system with our approved prospective adopters.  We also provide post placement and post adoption support to adoptive families and work closely with adopted adults who wish to access their birth records.

About the role

We are looking for a motivated and experienced social worker to join our supportive and enthusiastic team to provide specialist adoption services to the men and women of our Armed forces. We recruit, assess, family find, match, and are with our families through the life of their adoption journey through our post placement support. As part of the team, you will engage and assist in duty, participate in preparation training, and support post adoption family activities. Working from home and willing to travel extensively within the UK you will work with a wide range of professionals and experienced team in a unique environment.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will be a qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.  You will have post qualifying experience of working with children and families in a statutory setting, including the recruitment, preparation, and assessment of families.

You will be able to complete the necessary paperwork to present to adoption panels, to liaise with care agencies in order to match suitable children with approved applicants and in co-operation with the placing agency, support the applicants with family finding and both pre and post placement.

You will be expected to maintain and update your personal skills and knowledge to ensure best practice and to integrate learning into your own practice and to others. Due to the nature of the post, you must have the ability to prioritise and organise your own workload and be able to commit to extensive travel when required.

SSAFA is an employer that values the diversity of its workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

No agencies please. Any unsolicited submissions from agencies will be accepted as a direct application from the candidate and no fees will be payable.
