Meet Dan and Pascal – two Royal Navy Officers, who have taken up the challenge to cycle 5000 km across the USA in 2022! 5000 km in 35 days – Pascal and Dan will be riding entirely unsupported from San Diego (California) to St Augustine (Florida), across the USA from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
The primary aim of their trip is to raise funds and awareness for mental health in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, in conjunction with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC). Founded in 2007, it is the principal charity of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and exists to support sailors, marines, and their families, for life.
Expedition cyclists Pascal and Dan joined the Royal Navy on the same day in January 2005 and continue to serve. Since joining, both have enjoyed varied and challenging careers as Aircrew Officers, deploying all around the world on frontline operations. They undertake this ride with the full support of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, the resilience and determination required in such a physical challenge embodies the spirit of the Service.
Having both served multiple frontline flying tours overseas in the past 16 years, the pair have seen first-hand the fantastic support the RNRMC have provided for serving personnel and their families,
‘We wanted to give something back to this brilliant charity, and we wanted to go BIG – hopefully, the scale of our challenge will convince people to donate any spare change they might have. All towards a great cause!’
Adrian Bell, CEO of Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity said:
“It is wonderful to see Royal Navy personnel come together in an epic fundraising endeavour to support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. We are constantly surprised and humbled by the lengths supporters go to in order to raise money for us.”
As part of their ongoing training plan, this summer they will complete a 2000 km ‘training ride’ from Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG), to help them prepare for next year’s epic adventure across the USA.
