The Best Seat in the House – Series One Comes to An End

Friday 24 July marks the end of Series One of The Best Seat in the House.

Since 31 March, some 25,000 of you have joined us for over 30 hours of first-class entertainment that have kept our toes tapping, fingers clicking and vocal chords in good use. It’s been wonderful to receive videos of many you laughing, dancing and singing along to some fantastic performers including Not Forgotten friends Mickie Driver and Annie Riley, plus Brian May, Jools Holland, Carl Schofield and so many, many more. We must mention The King of Covid Karaoke, Brian Conley who has delighted us each week – we didn’t always know what he was going to do, or what he was going to wear, but we did know that it was going to be a lot of fun!

Our very special thanks must, however, go to Mickie and Annie, who have not only appeared in every single episode but have been the masterminds behind the series’ success. Even in these tricky times, they have remained firm friends and supported The Not Forgotten in every way possible.

Music has been an integral part in The Not Forgotten’s programme since 1920. On discovering the hundreds of wounded servicemen in her local hospital in the aftermath of The Great War, our founder, American soprano Marta Cunningham’s first instinct was to bring them joy through music and song. This is a tradition we are proud to have continued for 100 years through our concert series in care homes and, in these extraordinary times in which we have all been in lockdown, online.

This series may have come to an end, but this is not necessarily farewell. Should the need for The Best Seat in the House arise again, we will be back with as just much fun and flourish. In the meantime, we hope to see some of you as we travel the country with our new, socially distanced concert series Those Not Forgotten Years.
