Young people aged 14 – 17 invited to take part in a unique, fully supported residential experience for just £50
Places are now open for The Weekender 2026; an action-packed residential programme designed exclusively for young people from Royal Navy and Royal Marines families.
Taking place from 31 July to 2 August 2026 at the University of Stirling, the weekend offers a rare opportunity for 14–17-year-olds to build confidence, independence, and lasting friendships in a safe and supportive environment.
Thanks to significant funding from Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), places are heavily subsidised to just £50 per participant for Royal Navy and Royal Marines children – a fraction of the true cost. This investment ensures the programme remains accessible to RN/RM families across the UK, regardless of location or circumstance. Travel within Scotland is also covered, further reducing barriers to participation.
Delivered by Kings Active Foundation, The Weekender provides a dynamic programme of activities using Stirling’s outstanding facilities, including sports halls, gym spaces, tennis courts, pitches, and a swimming pool. Participants are encouraged to try new activities, challenge themselves, and step outside their comfort zones.
Beyond the physical activities, the programme places strong emphasis on connection and belonging. Many attendees meet others from Armed Forces families who share similar experiences, often forming friendships that last well beyond the weekend. Small group settings and experienced staff ensure every young person feels supported and included.
Parents have highlighted the lasting impact of the programme, particularly for young people who may need additional support:
“Our child has additional needs, including ASD and ADHD, and attending Kings Camps has helped them to develop the confidence to engage in activities that can be socially challenging. The Weekender would further support their socialisation skills, build confidence in unfamiliar situations, and help them gain a greater sense of independence.”
Participants also benefit from time away from screens and routine, focusing instead on wellbeing, movement, and real-world interaction. Each attendee receives a free Weekender kit, helping to foster a sense of identity and shared experience.
One previous attendee said:
“I loved The Weekender, making many friends in the forces community and learning new skills. It was the highlight of my summer. It’s great meeting other RN children who share the same experiences.”
The programme is supported by a Royal Navy-connected organisation, ensuring high standards of pastoral care throughout. Travel options from key Royal Navy locations also help make the experience accessible nationwide.
The Weekender continues to provide service children with a unique opportunity to grow in confidence, build friendships, and gain experiences that support future aspirations.
Places are limited, and families are encouraged to book early.
