Virtual Run Raises Over £900 for Worthing Veterans’ Charity

On Sunday 26 July, 32 people took part in the latest virtual race, organised by Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, and raised £910.

The participants walked or ran either 5km or 10km in their own time and at a location of their choice; locations were spread across the country, from Worthing and the South Downs, up to London, Leeds and Hull.

The charity, which provides care and rehabilitation to physically disabled ex-Service personnel, has seen many events that were planned for this year either postponed or cancelled. Care for Veterans relies on these important events to fund the work they do.

Event organiser, Phoebe Tether, said,

“Thank you so much to all those who took in our last virtual race. Together you have walked, run and cycled over 280km and raised a fantastic amount of money! This will make such a difference to the residents here at Care for Veterans, for example, it could cover the cost of our physiotherapy department for two days. Like many charities, COVID-19 has had a big impact on our income. However, with the help of people like you, we have been able to continue supporting the veterans in our care. It may have just been your usual run, or a stroll in the park, but on Sunday you helped change people’s lives.”

Care for Veterans is looking for runners to take part in this year’s Worthing 10k, which has been postponed until Sunday 4 October. The charity has places for this year’s race and has already begun recruiting members for its ‘101 Donations’ team, who will be running to raise money for the disabled veterans in the charity’s care. Registration via Care for Veterans is just £22, and the charity asks that you raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. In return, you will receive a free Care for Veterans t-shirt or running vest, there will be a hospitality tent on race day with refreshments for before and after the run, plus entry into a prize draw to win a fabulous prize!
