Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) has announced a new partnership with Serco to help more veterans transition into sustainable civilian careers.
The partnership supports WWTW’s Employment programme and creates a route into work for veterans through Serco’s Pathways programme. Together, the programmes provide tailored support and mentoring for those who have served, including a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for veterans and their families. This helps to address one of the key challenges facing service leavers by helping them to translate military experience into civilian careers.
Many veterans leave the Armed Forces with highly transferable skills that are often undervalued by civilian employers. As a result, over half of service leavers take on roles below their previous level of responsibility or expertise.[1] Serco’s Pathways programme helps to address workforce gaps by removing barriers to employment and focusing on sustainable opportunities with clear career progression across essential public services.
Speaking about the partnership, Joel Oxberry, WWTW Deputy CEO, commented,
“Our partnership with Serco shows how collaboration can go above and beyond a corporate relationship and make a real difference to the lives of those who served. By bringing together WWTW’s expertise in veteran support with Serco’s breadth of employment opportunities, we are helping to strengthen the Pathways programme. Importantly, this does not just support veterans into work, it focuses on placing them into meaningful and fulfilling employment.”
Stewart Gruffyd-Jones, Head of Social Impact for Serco, said,
“Our partnership with WWTW has real social impact. It brings together WWTW’s expertise in the veteran field with Serco’s scale and access to meaningful employment opportunities across public services. Together, we can better recognise and harness the under-appreciated but highly valuable skillset within the veteran community, supporting people into long-term civilian careers that are fulfilling and strengthen essential government services.”
