The White Ensign Association has published its 2025-26 Annual Review and Impact Report, reflecting a year of record impact, growing demand and continued transformation in support of the Naval community.
During 2025, the charity supported 8,017 people, more than ever before and nearly double the number recorded before the launch of its current five-year strategy in January 2023. One-to-one casework increased by 48%, with the WEA extending its reach across the UK and overseas, on base, onboard and online.
From building financial confidence early in a career to assistance with pensions, compensation, transition and civilian employment, the report demonstrates the growing impact of trusted, independent WEA guidance throughout Naval service and beyond.
The WEA’s close and indispensable relationship with the Naval Service is also reflected in the report. Continuing a valued tradition, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins KCB OBE ADC RM contributes the First Sea Lord’s Annual Review, reflecting personally on assuming the role in 2025 and becoming the first Royal Marine to hold the office, before turning to the changing strategic landscape and the Royal Navy’s role within it.
From the High North and Operation Highmast to the people and partnerships underpinning the Royal Navy’s warfighting readiness, the First Sea Lord’s review provides his viewpoint on the Service today and the challenges ahead. He closes by paying tribute to the WEA and the “vital work” it does for sailors, marines and their families, serving and retired, describing that support as “deeply valued across the Naval Service.”
Commodore Stuart Wright, Chief Executive Officer of the White Ensign Association, said:
“2025 was a record-breaking year for the White Ensign Association. For the first time, we supported more than 8,000 people, while demand for our one-to-one guidance increased by nearly half compared to 2024.
“In the past 12 months we have also further expanded our staff and delivered a digital transformation. This has enabled us to both extend our reach and strengthen the support we provide to our beneficiaries
“I want to salute our staff, volunteers, trustees, funders, partners, supporters and of course the Royal Navy for all that they do in helping us to serve the Naval community.”
Behind the figures are the experiences of the people the WEA supports. Throughout the report, case studies and beneficiary feedback demonstrate what that support means in practice, from navigating the transition into civilian employment to securing recognition through the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.
In their own words, beneficiaries describe the difference trusted guidance can make. One serving member said WEA pension guidance had enabled them to “plan ahead” and understand the impact of their choices on their family’s future, while another said simply:
“I would not have had the right information to make an informed decision on my financial future without the WEA.”
