Twin brothers Luke from Surrey and Jamie from Devon are taking on Race Across the UK to raise funds in support of Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
Luke is a serving Royal Marine and Jamie serves in the Fleet Air Arm as an Air Engineer. After five years apart with Luke posted abroad, the challenge presented the perfect opportunity to reunite and take on a demanding adventure together.
“I thought this was a good way to get back to doing something fun together,” Luke explains.
Both brothers are avid fans of adventure racing, inspired by shows such as Race Across the World. “This was a great way to do something active while supporting a fantastic charity,” Jamie adds.
RNRMC has supported Luke and Jamie’s involvement in Telemark skiing for the Navy and Armed Forces, helping introduce around 100 novices to the sport each winter. The charity has also sponsored the Navy Telemark team, enabling service athletes to compete at the Interservices Snow and Ski Sports Championships.
“We have seen the benefits the charity provides over the years and the development of the Navy Telemark team,” the twins say.
Competing as ‘Twins of Telemark: One Breaks It, One Fixes It’, the brothers know Race Across the UK will test them both mentally and physically.
“Mentally, it will be working out our route and strategy, while physically the long days will be tiring. We’re most looking forward to the challenge itself and the engagement it brings – putting yourself out there and relying on the kindness of the British public,” the brothers say.
Their advice to anyone considering signing up?
“One life. Get out. Get moving. Enjoy the ride.”
