Following a busy six months of operational tasking, HMS Tyne welcomed family and friends onboard for a special Families’ Day celebration.
The event gave loved ones a unique opportunity to experience life at sea and gain a greater understanding of the important work carried out by the ship’s company. Families joined the crew for a sail around the Solent before returning alongside to enjoy lunch together on the jetty.
To ensure personnel had as much quality time as possible with their families and friends, catering was provided by an external company, allowing the ship’s chefs and food preparation team to enjoy the day alongside their loved ones.
Families’ Day plays an important role in strengthening the connection between service personnel and those who support them from home. It provides families with a firsthand insight into life in the Royal Navy while also creating opportunities to build relationships with other military families.
The event was a fitting way to mark the end of a demanding period of tasking, celebrate the support of families, and recognise the vital role they play in maintaining the morale and wellbeing of the ship’s company.
