Location: Victoria Hospital – Fife
Contract: 2 Years, Full-time, 35 hours per week
Salary: £24,573.00 per annum

Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of the military community? Are you a confident, self-starter with welfare experience? We are looking for someone with strong people skills, who can work independently and as part of a team, to join DMWS in Victoria Hospital, Fife. You are responsible for providing a world class, responsive medical welfare service to service users and their families, by delivering superb practical and emotional support.
This post is based in Victoria Hospital, Fife and will operate out of the discharge hub. As a Welfare Officer, you will be expected to work alongside the Health & Social Care Partnership partners and the medical staff daily. Referrals can be received from various medical teams, community partners and veteran charities meaning you may be expected to drive to community hospitals or carry out home visits. By assessing wellbeing needs such as finances, housing, social isolation etc; you will make intelligent supported referrals to partner organisations to create an extended support network tailored specifically for that individual.
With the focus on delayed discharges to the forefront of the NHS, you will look to contribute to this ongoing effort. For Fife specifically, discussions with NHS staff have suggested that DMWS could work more effectively with the new ‘front door’ model that will focus on admission avoidance and efficient discharges. This would mean that our staff would operate both out of the discharge hub and within the admission unit covering all sides of the discharge process in the acute setting. You will attend weekly NHS meetings specifically looking at patients going through the discharge process and offering veteran’s services to contribute to the support network being organised for patients. The model is in the development stage, and you have an opportunity to make veteran support in the Victoria Hospital more prominent and accessible for both the patients and the NHS staff.
