The need for Veterans Central
A recent Government survey showed the age profile of UK veterans with almost 35% being over 80; over 50% of veterans are over 65 and thus outside the normal workforce age. This can produce the challenges that Veterans Central aims to address:
• A sense of purpose and an aim
• Socialisation
• Addressing issues and concerns that a veteran might feel more comfortable discussing with another veteran.
• Provide help and support from simple things such as filling in forms or highlighting service providers that can help with specific problems.
What this means for veterans and serving personnel is:
• Create a sense of purpose, an aim that enables you to achieve something as part of the team. Make a difference by joining with other veterans and supporters in developing the West Raynham SHQ building and gardens (check the volunteering page).
• Come and socialize with other veterans – a bit of banter, an exchange of stories, with a few cups of coffee (or tea) and a piece of cake or two, plus a look around this fantastic building and its gardens. A great way to spend an hour or two. We welcome veterans to come and join us at West Raynham SHQ for a drop-in coffee and cake, a breakfast, or a lunch.
o Veterans Central is open for Veterans 4C drop-in (coffee – cake -conversation and company) visits 3 days a week Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday from 10 to 3.
