Support Offered

Supporting the Wellbeing and Development of Naval children: 0-25 yrs, serving/veteran, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Reserves, Royal Fleet Auxiliary.  Programmes of support ranging from direct financial support to families to wellbeing resources, advice and guidance from a dedicated team of caseworkers.  Families can come directly through self-referral, through SSAFA or other agencies such as RNRM Welfare.

The Naval Families Federation exists to give all currently serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families the opportunity to have their views heard by those in positions of power. We work to remove disadvantage that may result from Service life. Our vision is for the serving Naval Service community to feel valued, to be treated with fairness and respect, and to be able to thrive. We recognise the significant diversity of people’s personal circumstances, family structures and communities, and aim to provide appropriately tailored support.

Support Offered

– We find out about the ‘lived experience’ of Naval Service families, and representing their views and concerns at Ministerial level, and to the Naval Service, government departments, civilian service providers and other stakeholders, in order to inform policy-making and change. We can challenge policy on your behalf.
– Providing information and de-mystifying the system through our website, social media channels, Homeport magazine, and direct engagement with families via our enquiries desk or face-to-face.
– Providing advocacy support when appropriate, and offering signposting and guidance to help serving people and their families to find the best route to resolve an issue.

QVSR’s Welfare Team assists residents with benefit applications and access to individual grants as well as providing support with medical and emotional issues through signposting to appropriate organisations. QVSR aims to provide an environment where residents are able to rebuild their lives, regain their self-confidence and make the transition from homelessness to more
independent living.
QVSR’s facilities include en-suite bedroom accommodation, modern restaurant and evening coffee shop, TV lounges, Wi-fi, snooker and pool, gym, Chapel, multi-faith or “quiet room” and garden.

RAF Families Federation (under RAFA)

Represents the views and concerns of RAF personnel and their families to those who can make a difference, for example senior RAF and MoD staff and Ministers. The RAF FF is outside the chain of command and can promise an independent and confidential service.

Riverside Veterans Services – We are committed to supporting veterans facing homelessness and our services are developed and driven by staff who have served in the Armed Forces.
Veterans Support for veterans facing homelessness: This is a key element of Riverside Care and Support veterans services. The Beacon, Hardwick House and Mike Jackson House are specialist supported housing centres, a leading part of Riverside’s practical commitment to veterans. Key to these housing services is the support provided around employment, training, health & wellbeing and resettling veterans into mainstream permanent housing. Referrals to the supported housing services is via SPACES.

Working closely with the JSHAO, Riverside established the Single Persons Accommodation Centre for the Ex Services, SPACES, in September 2000, since then we have helped over 15,500 homeless ex-Service personnel with their housing needs. SPACES provides tailored, specialist housing support for the unique issues veterans’ face. Crucially this housing advice includes support for serving personnel, up to a year prior to discharge, who are at risk of becoming homeless on discharge. SPACES delivers pro-active tailored 1:1 guidance, with the aim of preventing homelessness and rough sleeping among single Service leavers and veterans.
Within MCTC Colchester we have a fulltime Housing Worker who delivers a weekly housing brief on homelessness, veterans projects and private renting to all those who are sent to MCTC. Advice is also available on buying and renting property off camp whilst still serving to help prevent future homelessness. Members of the military staff can also use the service and receive advice and help on all aspects of housing before they leave.
