Pro bono services are a key offering of most professions and an important part of our ongoing campaign to build trust amongst consumers and membership organisations. The PFS has offered free generic financial guidance via MoneyPlan (a joint initiative with Citizens Advice) for several years and Forces MoneyPlan is a targeted extension of this hugely successful brand initiative.

Forces Moneyplan offers a free, confidential one-off consultation (by phone, face to face or online) with a fully qualified and regulated financial adviser who is a member of the Personal Finance Society and compliant with the societies code of ethics. The financial adviser will provide what is known as generic financial guidance designed to help individuals identify and better understand their financial needs or specific financial issues, services and/or products and make better informed decisions as a result. It will not involve giving personal recommendations about the suitability of specific products or services or their sale or promotion, as this is what is known as regulated financial advice which is outwith the scope of this offering.
Currently Forces MoneyPlan is promoted by several organisations that work in partnership with the PFS . These include:
The Veterans Gateway – all forces veterans can access the service via:
www.thepfs.org/about-us/initiatives//forces-moneyplan/forces-veterans.

Working closely with the JSHAO, Riverside established the Single Persons Accommodation Centre for the Ex Services, SPACES, in September 2000, since then we have helped over 15,500 homeless ex-Service personnel with their housing needs. SPACES provides tailored, specialist housing support for the unique issues veterans’ face. Crucially this housing advice includes support for serving personnel, up to a year prior to discharge, who are at risk of becoming homeless on discharge. SPACES delivers pro-active tailored 1:1 guidance, with the aim of preventing homelessness and rough sleeping among single Service leavers and veterans.
Within MCTC Colchester we have a fulltime Housing Worker who delivers a weekly housing brief on homelessness, veterans projects and private renting to all those who are sent to MCTC. Advice is also available on buying and renting property off camp whilst still serving to help prevent future homelessness. Members of the military staff can also use the service and receive advice and help on all aspects of housing before they leave.
