Bravehound’s Show Garden at the Gardening Scotland Show was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal.

The “All the Fields and Vales Along “ garden, inspired by Scottish poet of the First World War Charles Hamilton Sorley’s poem was designed and created by veterans and volunteers, and schoolchildren from Broxburn Academy.

Scotland’s finest musicians commemorate Nurse Mary Mckinnon and the sinking of HM Hospital Ship Glenart Castle  

On the 25th February at 4pm Fauré’s Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine were be performed at St Mary’s church Arisaig to commemorate the life of Mary McKinnon, a nurse from Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service and the 62 souls who were lost at 4am on 26th February 1918 when HM Hospital Ship the Glenart Castle was torpedoed and sank in the Bristol Channel and those from the village of Arisaig who served in the First World War.

Antis and Thomas Masters: Announcing a new veteran and Bravehound companion dog partnership

Antis, a Bravehound Companion Dog, named after Antis DM a dog which flew with Czech airman Robert Bozdech during WW2 as part of the Czech Squadron of the RAF, was partnered with veteran Thomas Masters, at a ceremony at RAF Glasgow today, 22nd February. The ceremony was also attended by Bravehound’s new Patron, Author Damien Lewis, and the daughters of the late Robert Bozdech.

The original Antis DM was awarded the Dickin Medal for his service during the Second World War, the story of which was captured in a book, soon to be made into a film, by best-selling author Damien Lewis “War Dog – the dog who could fly”. Damien and the daughters of the late Robert Bozdech travelled to the home of RAF 602 reserves Squadron for the occasion.

Bravehound Wins ‘Best Charity’ at National Lottery Awards

Glen Art’s Bravehound Project won the “Best Charity” category award at this years’ National Lottery Awards.

With a prize of £5,000, veterans Jimmy Church, Lee Aitchison and volunteers, along with Glen Art’s Founder Fiona MacDonald attended the award ceremony in London which will be shown on BBC1 on September 27th at 10.45pm

Glenart – 100th Anniversary of Wilfred Owen’s time in Edinburgh

Glen Art was invited by the Wilfred Owen Association to join them in events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the four months Wilfred Owen spent in Edinburgh, where he met Sassoon, and became , in his own words “A poets’ poet”

A grant from Awards for All to the WOA enabled Glen Art and Bravehound veterans to be at the heart of the project.

Thanks to fellow Cobseo members the Taxi Charity, the “Wilfred Owen “ actor Dave Clark and Owen’s nephew Peter Owen were sent off in style from a vintage taxi and Chelsea Pensioners.

Glen Art created a show garden at the Gardening Scotland Show in Edinburgh

We approached Robert Ross to design the garden and partnered with CWGC and the Wilfred Owen Association to create a garden called ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF REMEMBRANCE. It commemorated the centenary of Wilfred Owen’s time in Edinburgh and of the CWGC.

The garden won the Peoples’ Choice Award as well as a Silver Award. It was created by veterans with PTSD from Glen Art working with the gardening team from the CWGC.

Glen Art partners with CWGC and Wilfred Owen Association for Centenary Garden at Gardening Scotland Show

Glen Art Veterans are creating their annual Show Garden for the Gardening Scotland Show. This year’s garden is called ONE HUNDRED YEAR OF REMEMBRANCE and Glen Art are proud to be partnering with the CWGC and Wilfred Owen Association, to create a garden to commemorate the centenary of the CWGC, and of the time Owen spent at Craiglockhart War Hospital for officers with Shell Shock in 1917. Veterans with PTSD working with the CWGC gardeners in honouring those whose lives were lost or whose minds were shattered a hundred years ago.
