Ed Tytherleigh, Stoll’s Chief Executive, has been shortlisted for a prestigious award at the Heropreneurs Awards – a new awards scheme backed by the Ministry of Defence. The Veterans’ Foundation award category recognises organisations or individuals that have given outstanding help to Veterans leaving the Armed Forces and returning to civvy street, who may be struggling due to physical injuries and mental health issues.

PM awards outstanding British Forces child bereavement charity founder

The Prime Minister has recognised Nikki Scott, from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, for supporting bereaved British Armed Forces children.

Nikki is the founder f ‘Scotty’s Little Soldiers’, the UK’s leading charity for bereaved British Forces children. Nikki set up the charity after her husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott, died in Afghanistan in 2009. The charity reaches more than 360 children of Army, Navy and RAF personnel with its ‘smiles’, ‘support’ and ‘strides’ programmes, providing fun activities, counselling and personal development grants.

Forces Radio BFBS Scoops Two International Radio Awards

Two radio documentaries produced by Forces Radio BFBS have won Silver and Bronze trophies at the 2018 New York Festivals Radio Awards in Manhattan.

I Am Unconquered took Bronze in the Heroes category in the Information/Documentary group. The programme follows four British Invictus Games athletes through their everyday struggles and explores the transformative power of sport.

It was created by Will Warren – a Forces Radio BFBS Producer – and Poppy Pawsey, a former Royal Marine bandswoman.

Local volunteer is awarded BEM on Queen’s birthday honours list for services to the Military Community

A local volunteer from Lancashire has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Frank McKnight, 63, from Lancashire has been awarded a BEM for his voluntary services to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. SSAFA provides lifelong support to those currently serving, veterans and their families in their time of need.

Frank, a Navy veteran, has been an integral part of the SSAFA Lancashire branch since 1995 as a volunteer caseworker and member of the IT user group, where he helped move the branch from paper-based to computer-based systems.

Bravehound’s Show Garden at the Gardening Scotland Show was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal.

The “All the Fields and Vales Along “ garden, inspired by Scottish poet of the First World War Charles Hamilton Sorley’s poem was designed and created by veterans and volunteers, and schoolchildren from Broxburn Academy.
