Cobseo at the RAF 100 flypast 2018

Just about everyone in the country by now should be aware the RAF is 100 years old this year. A relative youngest compared to the Royal Navy and the Army but nonetheless a vital component in Britain’s modern armed services. Whilst the sleek fighter aircraft get the admiring looks for the public and media photographers, we should not forget the essential and frequently unsung work undertaken by the RAF’s helicopters and transport squadrons, as well as the large cast of supporting specialists on the ground preparing people and planes for duty.

New guide aims to improve care of ex-Service men and women in nursing homes

A new guide launched on 7th June, to help care homes provide better support for the hundreds of thousands* of service men and women in assisted living in the UK.

Produced by Demos think tank, in partnership with the Forces in Mind Trust and the Care Cluster of Cobseo (The Confederation of Service Charities), the guide will be sent to all UK care homes and care home provider headquarters.

Tackling Veterans’ homelessness: A Call to Action – pledge your support

We asking you to pledge your support and to update you on some very positive developments on our quest to eliminate Veterans’ homelessness following our reception at the House of Lords in March.

The University of York research that we launched at the reception highlights how some ex-Service personnel slip through the net and end up homeless after leaving the Armed Forces. Evidence suggests that well over a thousand ex-service personnel each year require urgent support to find accommodation.

On the back of this research we developed a Call to Action to help tackle this important issue.

General Sir John McColl, KCB, CBE, DSO, Executive Chairman of Cobseo, The Confederation of Service Charities said:

‘Lord Ashcroft has made a significant impact on Veterans transition since his appointment as Veteran’s Tsar in 2012. He has been an influential voice, highlighting issues around which others have coalesced. We in Cobseo thank him for all that he has done on behalf of the Veteran’s community. A great deal remains to be done and we are delighted that Lord Ashcroft intends to remain Involved, particularly in the preparation of the Veteran’s Strategy due for publication later in 2018

New Armed Forces charities sector leadership programme awards 22 fellowships

The Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), established to help ex-Service personnel and their families make a successful transition back to civilian life, Cobseo, The Confederation of Service Charities and Clore Social Leadership are delighted to announce details of the 22 successful emerging leaders who will take part in ‘Clore6: Cobseo’, a new leadership development programme for the Service charities sector.

The participants come from a wide variety of charities and include: Glen Art, Housing Options Scotland, the Naval Families Federation, Stoll and the Royal British Legion. All participants will have the opportunity to utilise their applied learnings in team challenges to immediately transfer the skills they gain from the programme back into their organisations.

New leadership programme opens for the Service charities sector

[Date: 12/06/2017]: Today Clore Social Leadership announced a new leadership development programme for the Service charities sector. ‘Clore6: Cobseo’ was designed in partnership with Cobseo, The Confederation of Service Charities, and Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), who are providing the programme’s core funding.

Aimed at emerging leaders in the Service charities sector, ‘Clore6: Cobseo’ seeks to develop a cadre of leaders to provide robust and effective leadership for their organisations and sector. The programme is built around Clore Social Leadership’s Social Leaders’ Capabilities Framework, which illustrates the attributes, behaviours and skills for successful leadership.
