Future for Heroes working with Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust: First Step – Supporting Veterans

To better understand just what it is that Future for Heroes offers to the leaver and veteran community and so be better placed to refer the right individuals, Nicky Lavery of the Cumbrian NHS Foundation Trust attended one of our free residential courses. Nicky is the lead practitioner with First Step, an organisation within the Cumbrian NHS that supports military veterans. First Step works closely with other similarly minded organisations to ensure as many military veterans as possible can get the help they need.

20 former Future for Heroes delegates – support the annual Brathay Windermere Marathon

Over the weekend of 21/22 May, 20 former Future for Heroes delegates-now-volunteers returned to Brathay to again support the annual Brathay Windermere Marathon: probably the prettiest but definitely not the flattest road marathon in UK. Acting as race marshals and handing out drinks, huge vocal support and encouragement to the tiring runners at the last 3 water-stations (why do we always get the last 3?) our volunteers provided fantastic support to Brathay. It also gave the opportunity for revision and recap of activities from their own courses, share their experiences, meet up with old mates and forge new friendships. An excellent 3 days. Many thanks to Brathay and all who made it to The Lakes for the refresher weekend.

Future for Heroes – A Charity Update

The last few months have seen some significant changes to our charity, not least is a name update from what used to be the more familiar Remount. A strapline the charity had then, ‘the future for heroes’, was felt better to highlight the work the charity does and was adopted formally to replace the old name.
