A busy week at The NFA

Last Thursday was an eventful day for The Not Forgotten Association with 12 beneficiaries attending the Founder’s Day Parade at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, before joining a further 2,500 veterans at Buckingham Palace for our Garden Party in the afternoon. Not only is the parade a sight to behold, but it was an honour and privilege for the group to be presented to His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank The Royal Hospital Chelsea for their kind invitiation!

The Royal British Legion Funding

Fantastic news! Huge thanks to the Royal British Legion. Just received, significant funding support to help towards our charity’s operational costs for another year. (Those expenses that are vital for a charity to operate but understandably can be more difficult to raise). This will allow us that extra breathing space to focus on what we do best: offering support to that small number of service leavers and veterans (and their partners/spouses) who may find transition somewhat challenging.

Remembrance Day Installation Grants: Applications Now Open

To commemorate the centenary of the First World War, There But Not There has teamed up with the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to help communities host a fully-funded commemorative installation, without having to worry how to pay for it.

The silhouettes represent those lost in the First World War, whose names appear on local war memorials around the country, bringing them back into their place of worship, their school, their workplace or wherever their absence was keenly felt.

The Tweed Challenge

The Tweed Challenge is a bid by two inexperienced kayakers to navigate 97 miles of the famous Scottish river to raise funds for Veterans Aid.

Its aim is to help VA prevent ex-servicemen and women in crisis from becoming street homeless – and providing an immediate way out for those who are.

A meeting on the touchline of a rugby match, while cheering on their sons five years ago, led to an unexpected outcome for a 49-year-old Scottish businessman and a 46-year-old army officer.

Combat Stress announces partnership with Ayr Running Festival

Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health has been announced as the official 2018 charity partner of the Ayr Running Festival.

The partnership aims to encourage supporters to take part in either the 10k or 5k race on 29 August 2018 to raise vital funds for the charity. Both routes, which start at the Citadel Leisure Centre, pass beautiful scenery and are suitable for all abilities.

Countdown is on to open 34 new homes for Veterans in Aldershot

Injured Afghanistan war veteran takes on Nuclear Races for Military Charity

A former Para, who lost his leg while serving in Afghanistan, is taking on the Nuclear Rush this May to support Military Charity Blesma, the Limbless Veterans.

Michael Lewis, 34, from Northampton, will battle a 7k muddy obstacle course at Nuclear Races, Brentwood to say thanks for the help Blesma provided him after he lost his right leg.

In 2008, Michael was serving with 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment in Afghanistan, when Michael and his platoon were engaged by the Taliban and during an intense fire-fight Michael was hit by friendly fire in his right leg, left knee, left arm and helmet. The blast led to the amputation of Michael’s right leg below the knee and he has lost some of the use in his left arm.

The Sixth Annual Award Consideration Starts Today Until June 1 in U.S. and U.K.

London, UK (May 14, 2018) – The Call of Duty Endowment today begins its application process for the sixth annual “Seal of Distinction” Awards, recognising U.S. and U.K. based non-profits that demonstrate the highest levels of effectiveness, efficiency, and integrity in placing ex-service personnel into high-quality jobs.

The prestigious award for grantees is accompanied by a £23,000 unrestricted grant, as well as the opportunity to apply for future funding. Past beneficiaries include: Goodwill Southern California, Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainer Region, NextOp, RFEA – The Forces Employment Charity, and Walking With the Wounded.

Help for Heroes has grant funded more than £1 million to the NHS

Military charity Help for Heroes has grant funded more than £1 million to the NHS to ensure Veterans suffering from mental health problems will get quicker access to support.

Help for Heroes, which offers support to Veterans and Service Personnel who have suffered life changing injuries or illnesses, is grant funding £517,389 to Veterans’ NHS Wales, £431,109 to Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and a further £178,000 to The Change Step Project, a Veteran to Veteran peer mentoring scheme.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary since Danny met Sandy and a feeling of Summer Lovin’ swept the nation, local homeless charity Alabaré, are inviting you to their outdoor cinema extravaganza of the iconic musical, Grease!

Film goers will have the chance to see this all-time favourite against the historic backdrop of Old Sarum airfield. So come along to dance and sing the night away on Saturday June 2nd and help raise valuable funds for Alabaré and Our Wilton’s work with homeless and vulnerable veterans.
