The Veterans’ Pain Clinic – Next appointments available Monday 12th February 2018

The Veterans Pain Clinic is free of charge to all veterans who are able to provide proof of service. The costs will be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.

The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service.

The first six months have received outstanding feedback. Launched in June, the Veterans’ Pain Clinic, part of the Centre for Veterans’ Health, at King Edward VII’s Hospital has been a great success.

The clinic is run at the Centre for Veterans’ Health, King Edward VII’s Hospital in association with Supporting Wounded Veterans. These appointments are free of charge – they just need your proof of service & a GP referral letter.

A new online research resource on veterans’ health has just been launched

The Health of Veterans’ Research Team (HVRT) at King Edward VII’s (KEVII) Hospital is a new research group established to conduct literature reviews on veterans’ health. The HVRT has just launched their website which will act as an online research resource on veterans’ health by providing literature reviews, exclusive data, as well as news updates. Their website acts as a portal for sourcing information on the health of veterans, and also details more about the team and their current and future research projects. Pain Management Programme for Veterans

King Edward VII’s Hospital understands the immense distress and suffering that persistent pain can cause; as much as being physiological, pain can also seriously affect thoughts and emotions, which in turn feeds back into the pain system. Thus, persistent pain often adversely impacts on relationships, work, hobbies, interests and other activities, as well as mood and overall wellbeing. As a consequence, those suffering from chronic pain often find themselves feeling helpless and lacking the confidence to continue with previously meaningful activities.
