Reporter Victoria Smith from SSVC’s Forces Welfare Media Team filmed recently with Rick McGillivray, a veteran helped out of homelessness by E-FAN, a Covenant-funded project run by the Defence Medical Welfare Service and the Cheshire & Greater Manchester Rehabilitation Company. Rick fondly remembers his Army career but no longer has any photos from the time. The Welfare Team helped him to appeal on social media and they’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Thanks to the video, Rick has been sent messages of support by friends he made in the Army and at school, as well as a number of photos.Read more
Step into Health has partnered with West London Mental Health Trust to host a recruitment event for military veterans, service leavers and their families. This event will provide an overview of the NHS and opportunities at the West London Mental Health Trust and will allow attendees to apply and be interviewed on the day for live vacancies at Broadmoor Hospital.Read more
Three runners took on the Worthing Half Marathon on Sunday 12 February, in order to raise money for The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH), which cares for disabled ex-Servicemen and women.
Andy Henry, Liam Tulett and Steve Tait-Bower all successfully completed last Sunday’s half marathon and, so far, they have collectively raised £1,230 for the Worthing-based charity.Read more
The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is celebrating after receiving a £2,500 gift from The Patron’s Fund, the charitable fund set up to acknowledge the work of the charitable organisations for which Her Majesty The Queen acts as a Patron, on the occasion of her 90th birthday.Read more
Wirral veteran, Alison Williams (41), has become the latest cover star of the Combat Stress spring magazine after the leading veterans’ mental health charity supported her to regain her confidence and rediscover her voice.
Alison, who served in the Royal Air Force for 13 years, was chosen to join Gareth Malone’s Invictus Choir in 2016 and performed at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida last May.Read more
Applications are now being accepted for the Forces Media Academy’s unique media course.
The free Higher National Certificate (HNC) Media Production Course is for service leavers or veterans, and all students on the one-year course also receive a bursary of £18k.
The full-time course starts on 25th September 2017 and will run until July 2018 at SSVC’s headquarters in Buckinghamshire, so students will work with award-winning media teams alongside the programme of lectures.Read more
