Coldstream Guards coming to Exeter Cathedral

Nation’s Oldest Army Regiment to perform to raise money for SSAFA.

On the evening of Saturday 28th July, locals are set to be delighted by the Regimental Band of the Coldstream Guards performing inside the atmospheric Exeter Cathedral. The concert will be raising money for the Devon branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, following a connection made by the SSAFA Devon Branch Patron, Lord Clifford (a former Coldstream Guards Officer and President of the local Coldstream Guards Association).

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity colla-bear-ates with Steiff for limited edition Armistice bear

In time for the centenary of the end of the First World War, a special collaboration has been announced between SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and Steiff.

The oldest, tri-service military charity and the world’s oldest manufacturer of hand-crafted stuffed animals for collectors and machine washable plush toys for children have come together to honour this poignant moment in history, with a limited-edition collector’s Armistice Bear. Each bear sold will raise £20 for SSAFA – helping to provide practical, emotional and financial help for the Armed Forces community in need.

Heropreneurs is delighted to announce that Surge Group Plc has become the Main and Headline Sponsor to the Heropreneurs Awards. The Awards are run in association with The Telegraph and the Warwick Business School, and with support from the Ministry of Defence.

Defence Secretary praises Broughton House

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson praised Broughton House for the care it provides to veterans and for its vision for the future during a visit to the Salford care home for ex-servicemen and women.

Mr Williamson, who was accompanied by Bolton West MP Chris Green, met with veterans, staff and board members during his tour and learned more about Broughton House’s redevelopment plans.

The two-acre site is to be transformed into a Veterans’ Care Village in a £14m scheme.

2,000 older Armed Forces veterans helped by £4m collaborative project

A multi-million-pound programme to support older Armed Forces veterans in Scotland has helped around 2,000 people in its first year.

The Unforgotten Forces project is a collaboration of 15 leading organisations, led by Poppyscotland, which is delivering a range of services and enhancements in areas including advice, access to healthcare, social isolation, respite and transport, along with creative activities and events for those in care settings. The consortium was awarded £4m of funding from the Aged Veterans Fund to run the project over three years.

Defence Select Committee report 2017: Ministry of Defence must uphold the Forces’ Covenant

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) must show that it has learned the lessons of the lamentable record, in managing Service accommodation, of CarillionAmey, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the Ministry itself. So says the Defence Committee in its latest report, published on the 2018 Armed Forces Day, into the Armed Forces Covenant. (The Covenant expresses the moral obligation that the Government owes to those who serve or have served in our Armed Forces, and to their families.)
