Read moreMilitary amputees Corie Mapp and Chris Ganley are set to be part of the Weston-Super-Mare Helicopter Museum’s ‘World at War Weekend’ over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of April, which will be raising money for charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.
Corie, a double amputee from Swindon who served in the Household Cavalry, lost both of his legs below the knee after the vehicle he was travelling in drove over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Afghanistan. Since being injured in 2012, Corie has built himself an impressive career in Para-Bobsleigh, this year becoming World Number One.

Once such resident is Second World War Spitfire pilot Phillip Johnson. To commemorate the RAF centenary, here we share his incredible story.
Phillip joined the RAF on his 18th birthday and underwent the demanding Spitfire pilot training in the UK, Africa and Egypt. Once his training was complete Phillip was flown to Malta and joined 185 Squadron.

The premier league club have selected Blesma as a charity partner for the 2017/ 2018 season in honour of the Chadwell Heath-based charity’s work providing rehabilitative activities, and financial, emotional and practical support to limbless veterans.
The Hammers and Blesma have further developed their strong relationship through the West Ham United Foundation’s Learn to Coach Programme.

Read moreA blind Second World War veteran from Dorset has received a special award from military charity Blind Veterans UK for his outstanding work as an ambassador for the organisation over the last year.
Eddie Gaines, 93 and from Poole, received the award at the Blind Veterans UK Founder’s Day Awards, held at the charity’s training and rehabilitation centre in Brighton on Monday (26/03).
Eddie says: “I was so surprised when I got the letter telling me that I had even been nominated for the award. I was even more surprised and hugely honoured to find out I won!

Read moreA grant of over £30,000 has been awarded for the Royal Marines Families and Welfare Centre in Taunton by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
The grant, which has been distributed by the national charity of the Royal Navy, will enable the centre to complete the interior with comfortable furnishings and equipment.
Set to be officially opened later this year, the Norton Manor Camp Families Centre will provide a high quality facility for the Royal Marines service families within the Taunton area.
