Moneyforce Turns Five

MoneyForce, a service that provides money advice to UK Service personnel, their partners, families and dependants, is celebrating its fifth birthday and has introduced a new tool, GoalSaver: Holiday Planner.

MoneyForce is funded and delivered by The Royal British Legion in partnership with the Ministry of Defence. It is designed to better equip the serving community to manage their money and financial affairs.

The GoalSaver: Holiday Planner tool helps users plan for a holiday by working out how much it will cost in total based on their requirements, how much they will need to save, and by when.

How the Legion’s handy van service helps people maintain independence

The Legion’s handy van service helps ex-Service people and their families with small household repairs and minor adaptations.

The Legion has handy vans in 21 counties across the country, and partnerships with other organisations that offer the same service in areas where we don’t operate. Staff begin to assess properties as soon as they arrive, checking the state of doors, windows, security lights and fences.

Like many in the team, Chris comes from a military background and served for just under 14 years in the Royal Engineers: “I love it. I get to meet some fantastic people and hear all their stories”

Running Reverend set to complete Falkland Islands marathon as a penguin

RAF Chaplain, Padre Michael Chatfield has certainly gone the extra mile to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund. Not only has he decided to run the race in a penguin outfit, he had to extend his time on the Falkland Islands to do it!

Padre Michael is usually found working at RAF Odiham, having been posted there in June 2016, but was deployed for a four-month tour in November. He has chosen to take some of his post-deployment leave on the Falklands so he can compete in the Stanley Marathon and fundraise for the RAF’s leading welfare charity.

Local military charity invites you to a volunteer open day

Blind Veterans UK, a local charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting residents of Gwynedd and Conwy to attend a volunteer open day.

The charity is looking for prospective new volunteers to support the Regional Fundraising Team in a variety of different activities and roles within the area. With an extensive range of upcoming events, the charity is particularly on the lookout for volunteers to assist with manning stalls, taking registrations, promoting events and much, much more to be revealed on the day.

Dan Snow, WW1 Historian and SSAFA Ambassador’s letter to media

Blind veterans welcome local MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle to charity’s Brighton centre

On Friday morning (09/03) blind veterans supported by national military charity Blind Veterans UK were visited by Lloyd Russell-Moyle, MP for Kemptown and Peacehaven, at the charity’s centre in Ovingdean.

Lloyd was given a tour of the centre and answered questions about social care, and his continued commitment to supporting local charities, during a Q&A with staff and beneficiaries.

The Tour de Troops is a five-day Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle commencing Thursday 7th June to Monday 11th June.

Founded by Captain James Wadsworth CGC, The Captain James Wadsworth Challenge combines the Tour de Troops, which ran previously in 2017, with the newly launched Soldier’s Pass Run.
