AFF celebrates 35 years of support for Army families

This year, military charity the Army Families Federation (AFF) is celebrating 35 years of support for Army families.

Since its inception as the Federation of Army Wives Clubs back in 1982, AFF has evolved into a worldwide charity, working on behalf of all Army families – Regular and Reserve, wherever they are based, whatever their family make-up.

This year, thanks to an increased grant of £51,684 given by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity to Revitalise, a charity providing much-needed respite holidays for disabled people and those who care for them, 146 disabled Army veterans and their carers will receive well-deserved holiday breaks with care.

Warrior Challenge set to raise thousands in aid of veterans

Epic challenge in remembrance of soldiers killed in Afghanistan Warrior explosion.

In June, veteran and author Andy Reid, and Warrant Officer Class 2 Glen Hughes will be cycling 400 miles and kayaking 125 miles over 14 days in memory of six soldiers who were killed in an explosion of their Warrior armoured vehicle in Afghanistan in 2012.

Richard Hughes and Matthew Hammond both left the Royal Marines in 2012, keen to work in the property industry they founded Handy Heroes Construction – a London based property maintenance and construction company that largely recruits skilled ex-military tradesmen.

Kiltwalk to benefit vulnerable young people like Jade Scott

Tuesday 25th April 2017 – Thousands of people will be turning out for the kiltwalk in Glasgow this weekend with more charities from throughout Scotland set to benefit than ever before.

One of those to benefit is the Royal Caledonian Education Trust, which is based in Edinburgh, and provides vital grant funding to children from veteran armed forces families who are struggling to make ends meet, and often living with mental health issues, ill health and disability.

Gurkha struggle in post-earthquake Nepal

Tuesday 25 April – Two years on from the devastating Nepal earthquakes, a British charity is rushing to rehouse hundreds of Gurkha veterans and widows before the third monsoon since the disaster arrives.

The quakes left approximately 600,000 people across the country without a home. The majority are still living in rudimentary shelters constructed from corrugated metal sheets and the remains of former buildings.
