A Walk On The Wield Side

This 10-mile walk through the beautiful Hampshire countryside is taking place on Saturday 13th May at Upper Wield near Alresford to raise funds for The Not Forgotten Association. The walk gets under way at 9.30am, refreshments will be available at the start and at halfway and a hog roast will be served at the finish. The Glen Miller Tribute Band will be performing during the day and lunch can purchased for £10.

Wirral veteran takes centre stage

Wirral veteran, Alison Williams (41), has become the latest cover star of the Combat Stress spring magazine after the leading veterans’ mental health charity supported her to regain her confidence and rediscover her voice.

Alison, who served in the Royal Air Force for 13 years, was chosen to join Gareth Malone’s Invictus Choir in 2016 and performed at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida last May.

Cardiff mother of three to take on mammoth 100k challenge for military charity

A woman from Cardiff is training to take on the 100k London to Brighton challenge for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Helyn Salt, 43, will be embarking on the challenge for the second time, having previously taken part last year. Helyn first came across Blind Veterans UK when her cousin, a Royal Marine of 17 years who also served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for eight years, introduced her to the organisation.

Blind veteran from Staffordshire receives prestigious medal for helping liberate France from the Nazis

A Second World War blind veteran from Staffordshire has been formally presented with the Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur for his part in the liberation of France.

Rowland Edwards, 93 and from Stafford, was presented with the prestigious honour by Monsieur Jean-Claude Lafontaine from the French Consulate in a special ceremony at the National Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire. The ceremony, which was organised by military charity Blind Veterans UK, was attended by Rowland’s family as well as representatives from the charity.
