Skiing Week Brings Injured Veterans Together

This week The Not Forgotten Association is hosting a skiing holiday in La Plagne, France for 14 injured veterans drawn from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The group includes four amputees and represents a wide range of Army Regiments and the RAF. Help for Heroes, Stoll and Blesma have all nominated guests, most of whom have not taken part in an NFA activity or event previously.

Ex-Royal Navy engineer Craig Owens is a man on a mission

Having become a self-confessed “Teletubby” on leaving the Navy, 50-year-old Craig is now the driving force behind the Royal British Legion Northern Cycle Ride.

In summer 2016, Craig with the help of some close friends (Neil, Mark, David and Kev) organised the first ever RBL Northern Ride, involving two routes (70 miles and 100 miles) with more than 70 participants – this year he’s hoping to have more than 100 cyclists pedalling the roads of northern Britain to raise money for veterans.

Wounded veterans are being trained in stage craft and story-telling in a unique scheme to inspire schoolchildren across the UK

The former service personnel, many who lost limbs in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts, refined their public speaking skills with the help of leading theatre professionals.

They were taught delivery techniques and got to rehearse at the prestigious Theatre Royal Haymarket, London, to give added impact to their personal stories of trauma and redemption.

Royal Navy charity launches 10th year birthday celebrations with HRH The Princess Royal in Portsmouth

An intimate dinner attended by HRH The Princess Royal has officially marked the launch of a year-long 10th birthday celebration for the Royal Navy’s national charity, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

The dinner, held on HMS Victory in Portsmouth on Wednesday (25 January), was hosted by the Second Sea Lord of the Royal Navy, Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock OBE, who spoke of the special relationship between the Royal Navy and its charity.

The Soldiering On Awards will honour the 2017 finalists at the House of Lords on Thursday 9th February. Hosted by General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL with the charity’s patron, the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC, in attendance, the evening celebrates the achievements of all of those who have been chosen as finalists by the Award’s Independent Judges Panel. It is with delight the charity welcomes new Cobseo Chairman, General Sir John McColl KCB CBE DSO, to his first Soldiering On Awards event.
