Darlington sales executive to take on mammoth 100k challenge for military charity

A man from Darlington is training to compete in a 100k walk across the Yorkshire Dales for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Darren Hoare, 27, will be embarking on the challenge for the second time, having previously taken part last year in what was the challenge’s inaugural year.

Wounded Veterans to take on gruelling muddy obstacle race to raise money for Blesma and they want you to join them!

A group of wounded veterans are taking on the menacing Nuclear Races in May and they’re not letting their injuries stop them.

Blesma are partnering with Nuclear Races in Brentwood for their award winning fun, tough and gritty obstacle race on 13 May. With a Blesma dedicated wave at 12:40 and 500 places to fill, wounded Veterans are asking you to take part alongside them to complete this gruelling 7k race.

Blind Veterans UK ‘It’s all about community garden’ announced for RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

It was announced today (10/02) that military charity Blind Veterans UK will be sponsoring a special garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July.

The ‘It’s all about community garden’ has been designed by celebrated designers Andrew Fisher Tomlin & Dan Bowyer and it will be one of the largest show gardens at Hampton Court this year.

Fashion Show Funds Care for Disabled Veterans

The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH), on Boundary Road, Worthing, is organising a fabulous fashion show in April, to raise vital funds for their care and rehabilitation of disabled veterans.

The fashion show, on the evening of Thursday 6 April, will feature a range of fashions for all occasions and will start with fabulously glamorous evening and special occasion wear, courtesy of local dress boutique, Velvet Birdcage. There will also be outfits for work, leisure and day wear, including new, as-new, designer and vintage clothing, much of which has been kindly donated by QAHH supporters and will be for sale on the night, immediately after the Fashion Show, at sale prices.

Army Reserve rugby match raises funds for Legion

Members of the Army Reserve in Lincoln helped raised £550 for charity last weekend (Sunday 5 February) thanks to a special match being held in aid of The Royal British Legion’s (RBL) Poppy Appeal.

10 reservists from 160 (Lincoln) Transport Squadron joined colleagues from the Army Reserve’s wider 158 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) to form a side to ‘go in to battle’ with the RBL’s Select 15 from Lincoln Rugby Union Football Club (RUFC) to take part in the match held at Longdales Park, Lincoln.

Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity launches fundraising campaign to mark 100th anniversary of the Army v Navy rugby match

The national charity of the Royal Navy has launched a new fundraising campaign, Twickenham 100, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Army v Navy rugby match, held at Twickenham Stadium.

The campaign challenges groups and individuals nationwide to carry out their own fundraising activities, of any description, related to the number 100 in the run up to match day on 29 April to raise funds for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Vice Patron Lance Batchelor visits Royal Navy charity HQ

Staff at The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) were delighted to recently spend time with their Vice Patron and major donor, Honorary Commander Lance Batchelor RNR.

Lance, who toured the charity’s premises accompanied by his wife Wendy, is the CEO of Saga plc, the FTSE-listed provider of Insurance, Travel, Financial Services and Homecare to the over 50s.

GB Olympic gold medallist tours RBLI

Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Major Heather Stanning MBE this week toured Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), the charity she will run in aid of at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon.

Heather, who won gold for Great Britain in the rowing at London 2012 and Rio 2016, visited RBLI and its Aylesford village to witness first-hand the range of services the charity offers to support the ex-military and disabled community into employment.

Blind veteran from Ilford receives prestigious medal for helping liberate France from the Nazis

A Second World War blind veteran from Ilford has been awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur for his part in the liberation of France.

Schera Masters, 97 and from Ilford, was formally presented with France’s highest order by Madame Sylvie Bermann, the French Ambassador to the United Kingdom, in a prestigious ceremony at her official residence in Kensington Palace Gardens. The presentation, which took place on Tuesday January 30, was attended by Schera’s friends and family, as well as representatives from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.
