14th June 2018: Networking Group – The Porffor Group – Cardiff

The Porffor Group are a Cardiff based networking group for serving and ex-Navy, Army and Air Force Service men and women (including any international colleagues) who live locally. The aim is to facilitate opportunities for individuals to meet up with old friends and / or expand local contacts via regular events.

The group was founded by John Solosy, a Chartered Financial Planner who previously served as an Army Major.

British Paralympian launches Tour de Troops 2018

Mel Nicholls, British Paralympian and hand cyclist, launches Tour de Troops, the five-day endurance cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, along with Councillor Ruth Hatton, Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough and Major Peter Norton GC.

Starting the ride in style, participants and the VIPs met at St. Barbara’s Barracks, Ashchurch, before driving down to Land’s End to start the epic journey which takes place 7 June 2017 to 11 June 2018. The Tour de Troops covers 874-miles in five days and is raising money for the military charity, Felix Fund, who support the Explosive Ordnance Disposal community and their families.

SSAFA celebrates 1.25 million hours given by volunteers

Giving the gift of time to help Armed Forces community this Volunteers Week

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is marking Volunteers Week by celebrating its incredible 5,802 volunteers across the country who donated 1.25 million hours of their time last year.

Volunteers are at the heart of SSAFA’s work with the Armed Forces family. In 2017, SSAFA volunteers provided vital support to over 20,800 serving personnel, veterans and their families.

SSAFA branches provide personalised one-to-one support to the Armed Forces community in the area.

The Institute of Explosives Engineers confirmed as latest sponsors of Tour de Troops charity ride

The Institute of Explosives Engineers (IExpe) is the latest organisation to announce its sponsorship of the Tour de Troops endurance cycling challenge, raising money for Felix Fund, the charity supporting the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community.

IExpe, the membership organisation promoting the highest standards in the explosives industry, join L3 TRL technology, Anchor Vans and iDeal Displays as sponsors of the event, a five-day cycle between Land’s End and John O’Groats taking place between Thursday 7 June and Monday 11 June.

Creating bonds: Scotty’s Little Soldiers and TAPS help each other heal

Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ founder, Nikki Scott, was kindly flown out to Washington, D.C recently to spend time with U.S. charity TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors). The trip proved to be a memorable one with Nikki returning to the UK with a number of learnings from TAPS.

Nikki founded Scotty’s Little Soldiers in 2010 after the death of her husband Corporal Lee Scott in Afghanistan. The charity supports children across the UK who have lost a parent while serving in the Armed Forces and has great synergy with TAPS in the US, a charity which offers compassionate care to those grieving the loss of a loved one who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces or as a result of their service.

Royal Wedding fever hits Scotty’s Little Soldiers as the charity sees a major boost in awareness thanks to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Children’s Armed Forces charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, was chosen as one of seven charities to benefit from donations made to the Royal Wedding last month, and thanks to the Royal couple, the charity has received an incredible swell of awareness thanks to the new Duke and Duchess’s support over the last few weeks.

All press and media activity surrounding the Royal Wedding has helped raise the charity’s profile both on a national and international scale and within the third sector significantly.

Give Us Time has been nominated by the Veterans’ Foundation for their category in the Heropreneurs Awards!

All too many veterans find leaving the Armed Forces, and returning to civvy street, a huge struggle due to physical injuries and mental health issues. This may result in homelessness, unemployment, family breakdown, and a dramatic deterioration in their well-being. This Veterans’ Foundation award category seeks to recognise an individual in civvy street, or a business, that has given outstanding help to such veterans.
