We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives regardless of how or when they lost their sight. Founded in 1915, by Sir Arthur Pearson, to help the many veterans losing their sight after the First World War, we have supported those blinded in subsequent wars and military engagements, including the Second World War, and more recently, the conflicts in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan. We also support those who have served but lost their sight in later life.

We are currently seeking a Wellbeing Support Worker to join the team on a full time, permanent basis, working 35 hours per week.

The Role

As a Wellbeing Support Worker, you will support our members to take part in a variety of virtual and face-to-face activities. The activities which you will help to organise and deliver are aimed at encouraging a sense of wellbeing, through shared participation and experience as well as friendly connection.

Planning and delivering these activities, you’ll work with Community staff to assess the needs of members and produce tailored programmes that respond to those needs, ensure safety and develop their independence.

You’ll act as the initial point of contact for members seeking wellbeing and other services, responding to queries and helping them to navigate what support is available and what will work best for them.

Additionally, you will:

– Support the delivery of rehabilitation for members
– Maintain links with local organisations
– Proactively provide practical and emotional support and information
– Ensure compliance with safeguarding and risk management policies

This role will involve travel to organise events and visit members in their homes, attend team meetings face-to-face and will require some overnight stays and travel outside the region.

About You

To be considered as a Wellbeing Support Worker, you will need:

– Experience of working with vulnerable people to maximise their wellbeing
– Experience of inspiring and motivating people
– Experience of health promotion and/or activity
– Knowledge of relevant and appropriate rehabilitation activities for diverse groups
– Knowledge of, or the willingness to undergo, training relating to the field of vision impairment
– An understanding of risk assessment processes
– Nationally-recognised qualifications in fields such as health and social care, sports, exercise, recreation, IT, art or similar at Level 3 or equivalent, and/or relevant experience
