Once you have found a potential business to buy you need to test its commercial viability by doing your due diligence. ONWaRD are a free to all networking group hosting monthly meetings in the Manchester. The informal meetings are a chance for officers to network in the North West region and provide support for one another in civilian employment.

Longest serving blind veteran’s remarkable life celebrated at charity chapel as he passes away at 98

The long life of a remarkable blind veteran was celebrated on Tuesday at a funeral service held at the St Dunstan’s Chapel at the Blind Veterans UK training and rehabilitation centre in Ovingdean.

Norman Perry, who lived at the Blind Veterans UK centre for more than 18 years, was the longest serving beneficiary of the charity having received support for over 76 years.

Norman, who died on 16 April aged 98, insisted that guests were not to wear to wear black to his funeral. The service, which was attended by friends, family and other blind veterans, was much more a celebration of life than a sombre affair.

Walk Of America 2018: Meet UK Team Member, Kemsley.

Kemsley is one of the core UK team members taking part in the Walk Of America this year. He served with the Royal Signals for 15 years, a job he loved, but he is currently awaiting medical discharge. Kemsley struggles with repeated double shoulder dislocations which have severely impaired his physical and sporting abilities, and thus his ability to remain within the Army. He is passionate about helping and encouraging other ex-servicemen and women to come forward and seek support, and to shine the spotlight on those, who like him, feel that they aren’t injured ‘enough’ to warrant support.

Consultation on the new ways to tackle Serious Stress in Veterans, Carers and Families Programme

Target audience: veterans, charities, third sector organisations

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has launched a consultation to help shape a new £4 million programme designed to providing funding for innovative and new ways of working to reduce serious stress in veterans, their carers and families.

The consultation will explore how the programme should be delivered and the types of projects that should be funded. They are keen to hear from anyone with a view, but it is particularly relevant to veterans, charities with an interest in the Armed Forces Community, charities with an interest in mental health or health bodies.

Combat Stress’ Deputy Treatment Centre Manager awarded prestigious Churchill Fellowship

The Deputy Treatment Centre Manager of Combat Stress’ centre in Scotland has received a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to visit the US and Canada to see how they’re supporting families of veterans with mental health problems.

Hayley Thompson, who works at the charity’s treatment centre Hollybush House in Ayr, will spend six weeks in the autumn studying what support is available to partners and carers of veterans in North America.

Among the organisations she’s hoping to meet is a US helpline that educates, supports and empowers family members and friends seeking support for a veteran.
