Make a difference by walking the distance

Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, which provides care and rehabilitation to disabled ex-Service personnel, is looking for participants to take part in a sponsored walking event in May.
Just Walk, on Saturday 12 May, is a unique challenge event at Goodwood Racecourse, where you can raise money for Care for Veterans and take on a personal challenge at the same time. You can choose to walk either 10km, 20km, 30km, 40km or the big 60km – pick the one that suits you best!

Charity choir in search of pianist

Reverend Beverley Miles, who is Chaplain at Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, is in search of a pianist to accompany a new choir she has organised.
The Gifford House Singers, which consists of resident veterans, their family members, staff and volunteers, made their debut at the charity’s Carol Concert at Lancing College Chapel in December. The ensemble thoroughly enjoyed performing and was well-received by the audience, so they have decided to continue and take part in more performances.

A musical with a difference!

A musical is coming to Worthing and entertainment doesn’t get bigger than this. ‘The Grand Rehearsal’ promises to be big fun with music and dancing, where the audience is part of the show – a bit of drama, sing-alongs, dancing and great audience participation!
The show, which will be fun for all the family, will be on at the Emmanuel United Reformed Church, St Michael’s Road, Worthing, on Thursday 22 March at 7.15pm, and then Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 March at 4.00pm.

Bestselling crime and thriller writer helps raise £3,000 for local charity

International bestselling crime and thriller writer, Peter James, famous for the Brighton-based Roy Grace series, held a special ‘evening with’ in aid of Sussex charity, Care for Veterans, and helped to raise £3,000.

Mr James, author of 12 consecutive Sunday Times no.1s whose books have sold 19 million copies worldwide, took to the stage for almost an hour. He discussed his incredible career and shared fascinating, and often hilarious, stories and insights. He then answered questions from the audience, and signed books for waiting fans.

Be one of our Worthing 10k ‘Fabulous Fifty’! 

Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, is looking for 50 fabulous people to join its Worthing 10k running team, and help raise vital funds for disabled ex-Service personnel.

The Worthing 10k is one of the largest and friendliest running events in the south east, welcoming runners of all abilities to the flat seafront course on Sunday 3 June.

Care for Veterans has charity places for this year’s race, and has already begun recruiting members for its ‘Fabulous Fifty’ team, who will be running to raise money for the disabled veterans who are cared for by the charity.

Christmas Bazaar raises over £4,000 for disabled veterans

Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, held its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 2 December, and the event raised a fantastic total of £4,200!

More than 300 visitors browsed the various craft stalls at the Christmas market as they enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies, while listening to carols sung by the Mid Sussex Choir. Children won lots of prizes on the teddy tombola, visited Santa in his grotto, and The Owls About Town even made a special appearance, which was enjoyed by visitors and Care for Veterans’ residents.

The Trust and RBL help Rose come home

During a trip to Thailand to visit their son, Rose, Arthur and son David were involved in a horrific car accident which took the lives of Rose’s son and husband and left Rose with serious injuries.

Friends and family launched an appeal to raise funds so that Rose could be treated in Thailand. Rose spent 5 and half months in Bangkok Hospital, where she began to recover, but sadly there were no funds left to bring Rose back to the UK.

Charity Glitter Ball is a dazzling success

On Saturday 18 November, the Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, held its second annual Glitter Ball at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel in Arundel, and raised just under £14,000 for the disabled veterans who it cares for.

The 160 guests in attendance were welcomed with a drinks reception and were wowed by card tricks from magician, Harvey Woods. Then it was into the Grand Hall for dinner. Here, guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal, before everyone got on the dancefloor to dance the night away to the fantastic local band, The Alternatives!

Serving soldiers visit veterans at local charity

On Monday 6 November, soldiers from 12 Regiment, Royal Artillery based at Thorney Island, joined Worthing Mayor, Cllr Alex Harman, to open the Garden of Remembrance at Worthing Town Hall.

The soldiers, along with representatives of local charity, Care for Veterans, local dignitaries, military associations and schools, attended the ceremony to launch Remembrance Week, which honours those members of the armed forces who have been killed in conflict.

Following the ceremony, the soldiers returned to Care for Veterans to meet with the veterans the charity cares for, which has now become an annual tradition.
