The public are being urged to help our veterans back into work by adding their messages of support to a campaign starting Monday 25th June by The Poppy Factory, the UK’s leading employability charity for ex-Service men and women with disabilities.
The charity, which supports veterans with disabilities into work across the UK, is asking people to help it reach its goal of supporting 1,000 wounded, injured and sick veterans into work by the end of the summer, by posting a good luck message to a veteran for their first day in their new job.Read more

Join celebrities in sharing family stories of World War One
This year commemorates the 100-year anniversary of the most significant moments in British history – the end of World War One.
To mark the centenary, SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity has launched a campaign which calls on the public to help keep the nation’s history alive by sharing their family stories and photos from The Great War.
Celebrities including Antony Cotton, Helen McCrory, Joanna Lumley, Dame Kelly Holmes, Fleur East and Dan Snow have come together to share their stories and photographs in support of the SSAFA campaign.Read more
The Army Families Federation (AFF) is delighted that after five years of lobbying on their behalf, Foreign & Commonwealth (F&C) Army families should now find the process of applying for a visa to enter the UK much easier and fairer, thanks to the addition of an ‘Armed Forces’ option on the form.
Since 2013, when the new Armed Forces immigration rules came into effect, all non-EEA family members of soldiers wishing to apply for a visa to enter the UK have had to use an online form.Read more
The Defence Select Committee has announced it will be scrutinising Veterans mental health support this year, after Help for Heroes raised concerns in November last year.
In a letter to the Chair, Dr Julian Lewis, the Charity highlighted the issue of inadequate funding for NHS trusts who are finding their excellent work with Veterans and their families is being hindered by a lack of funding from central Government.
Head of Psychological Wellbeing, Karen Mead, welcomed the announcement saying: “Almost 500 individuals were discharged in 2016/17 with mental health issues – this has increased by 90% since 2012.Read more

A new veterans outreach programme has been launched in Bicester by Mission Motorsport. Bicester Heritage is the site of the former WW2 RAF Bomber Station and is now the UK centre of historic motoring with more than 30 classic car related businesses on site. Mission Motorsport has a unit at the site which forms a focal point and veterans community hub. Veterans@ Heritage will meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 0930 to 1230, the next meeting being 17th January 2018.Read more

In yet another significant campaigning triumph the Society has successfully argued the case for reinstating the “Short-Term Family Pension”.
The Short-Term Family Pension is a special payment made immediately following bereavement under the 1975 scheme – the widow or widower or civil partner will continue to receive pensionable pay (or full pension, if in payment) for three or six months following the death of the scheme member. This has always been seen as a way of providing short-term financial support at a very difficult time.Read more
