Over 300 bereaved Forces Children enjoyed a welcome break this year thanks to Scotty’s Little Soldiers

Over 300 bereaved Armed Forces children across the UK received some much-needed respite this year, thanks to supporters and donations made to children’s Armed Forces charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

The holidays, which are provided to all Scotty’s Little Soldiers members as part of its Smiles programme, are an integral part of the charity’s support network. They allow families time to spend together and help them create new, happy memories.

During 2017, 185 members enjoyed a weekend at one of Scotty’s six premium lodges located in Great Yarmouth, Berwick Upon Tweed, Blackpool, Exmouth, Hastings and Poole.

New AFF film tackles the future of Army housing

A new film out today produced by the Army Families Federation (AFF) highlights the influence they’ve had on the development of policy concerning the Future Accommodation Model (FAM), and their ongoing work around the issue on behalf of Army families.
With FAM still in its development stage, AFF has taken the opportunity to remind families that they remain committed to representing and involving families in the process as much as they can.

Wellbeing of Scotland’s Armed Forces children & young people is top of conference agenda

The wellbeing of Scotland’s Armed Forces children and young people was top of the agenda at a major conference at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh last week.

Approximately 150 education professionals, members of the armed forces community, MOD, policy makers, local authority representatives and family support organisations attended the conference, which was hosted and organised by Scotland’s Armed Forces children’s charity, the Royal Caledonian Education Trust (RCET).

The theme for the ‘Building Brighter Futures Together’ Conference was wellbeing of the child, not just for attainment, but inspiring positive destinations in Armed Forces children and young people.

Another BIG success for the Forces Pension Society

In yet another significant campaigning triumph the Society has successfully argued the case for reinstating the “Short-Term Family Pension”.

The Short-Term Family Pension is a special payment made immediately following bereavement under the 1975 scheme – the widow or widower or civil partner will continue to receive pensionable pay (or full pension, if in payment) for three or six months following the death of the scheme member. This has always been seen as a way of providing short-term financial support at a very difficult time.
