7th September 2017: North West Careers Access Fair – Manchester

Are you looking to settle in the North West and want to understand the employment opportunities in the region? Are you based in the North West and want to explore different options for your second career? This is the event for you.

Transport for Greater Manchester will be hosting the first Careers Access Fair for the North West at their head quarters in Manchester. Employers based within the region have been invited to attend and demonstrate career paths that are a good fit for Service leavers.

RAF and Army Dominate OA Inter-Services Triathlon

Teams from the Army, Navy and RAF competed in the annual OA Inter-Services Triathlon, on Wednesday 26th July at Cotswold Water Park. The RAF won both the men and women’s individual races, while the Army dominated the team categories.

The event, sponsored by the Officers’ Association (OA), was organised this year by the RAF Triathlon Association. Competitors swam through 1.5 km of open water, cycled 41 km of tricky terrain and finished the course with a 10 km run. The rain added an extra challenge, making the road and track slippery.

The OA Facebook Page was launched in July 2016, and is now a crucial way for us to engage with people.

It has 12,269 followers and has become an active hub for the transitioning and former officers’ community. We also use Facebook to reach a wider audience, including beyond the military sector. We share key stories, promote events and broadcast live to connect directly with our community in real time.

Samantha Rose, an RAF officer, won the OA Inter-Services Triathlon in 2016. We interviewed her to discover what it takes to be a winning a triathlete ahead of the race next week.

Defence Minister Visits OA London Office

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MP, met OA staff and volunteers, while visiting several military charities in London on Thursday 6th July.

The Minister, who is responsible for Defence People and Veterans, spoke to Lee Holloway, OA Chief Executive Officer, and Nigel Hare, OA Head of Benevolence, about how we support transitioning and former officers, as well as their dependants. The Minister has a personal interest in the OA, having served as a Captain in the Royal Green Jackets.

The Officers’ Association (OA) is proud to sponsor the Inter-Services Triathlon for a second, consecutive year.

Organised this year by the RAF Triathlon Association, the Army, Navy and RAF will compete at the annual event in the end of July. There are individual and team categories, including Male, Female and Veteran. In addition to the Armed Forces, the Emergency Services and the OA will each enter guest teams to compete.
