The Veterans’ Pain Clinic – Next appointments available Monday 12th February 2018

The Veterans Pain Clinic is free of charge to all veterans who are able to provide proof of service. The costs will be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.

The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service.

Deptherapy and Divecrew Grant Scuba Diver’s Last Wish this Christmas

A team from scuba diving rehabilitation charity, Deptherapy, and PADI 5* dive centre Divecrew, have made a scuba diver’s wish for one, last dive come true this Christmas.

Colin Clements, 60, from Woodley, Berkshire, is suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer that will take his life in the near future. Knowing he would be unable to dive again, Colin donated his diving equipment to Deptherapy so that other divers could be helped by his loss.

When contacting Colin to offer his thanks for this brave and selfless gesture, Richard Cullen, Deptherapy Chairman, was made aware that Colin had a dying wish to undertake one, last dive.

Charity and Dive Centre to Grant Scuba Diver’s Last Wish this Christmas

Deptherapy, the charity that seeks to rehabilitate UK Armed Service personnel who have suffered life changing mental and/or physical challenges, and Crowthorne’s PADI 5* dive centre Divecrew, are teaming up to grant a scuba diver his last wish this Christmas.

When Colin Clements and his friend Daphne Pearson walked into Crowthorne-based PADI dive centre Divecrew, no one expected what was to happen next.

Colin, 60, from Woodley, Berkshire, is suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer that will take his life in the near future.

Update from Supporting Wounded Veterans

LIBOR: SWV are extremely grateful to the LIBOR fund for granting them their full funding application for £1,054,800. The grant will finance their Pain Management Programme for a further three years.

SWV Ski Week: SWV have now completed their Veteran interviews for their 2018 Ski Week, and have selected 26 Veterans (out of 180 applications) to join their Skihabiliation programme next March.

Carol Concert: On 4th December, SWV held their first Carol Concert at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Sq. With over 500 tickets sold and a waiting list of over 100, they are happy to announce that this will now become an annual event.

Deptherapy is pleased to announce two major expeditions 2018 together with the team selection for each expedition 

The first to Roots Red Sea in Egypt is the largest expedition to date and is aimed at new divers who will undertake their PADI Open Water courses and also a number of divers who are part of the Deptherapy continuing education programme.

In August the charity undertakes its most challenging expedition, thus far, by taking 14 WIS veterans to dive Chuuk Lagoon, widely regarded as the best wreck diving site in the world. The selection process has been rigorous and based on diving ability and commitment to personal development through the continuing education programme.

Service Families’ From Headley Court Benefit From Respite Break

In October Give Us Time sent five families to the amazing Azure Resort in Malta in collaboration with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Center at Headley Court. We are all incredibly grateful to the Azure Resort for this generous donation as one of our family members said “we just want to thank you all again, it is just amazing that there are people out there helping others”.

The feedback from the families has been wonderful: they all had a great break relaxing and reconnecting as well as exploring the island.

The first six months have received outstanding feedback. Launched in June, the Veterans’ Pain Clinic, part of the Centre for Veterans’ Health, at King Edward VII’s Hospital has been a great success.

The clinic is run at the Centre for Veterans’ Health, King Edward VII’s Hospital in association with Supporting Wounded Veterans. These appointments are free of charge – they just need your proof of service & a GP referral letter.

New Recovery Equipment Transforms the Life of Royal Navy Weapons Engineer

A former Royal Navy Weapons Engineer whose life has been transformed by new recovery equipment has described the charitable help that she received as a “godsend”.

Naomi Lynch, 35, from Plymouth was a Weapons Engineer with the Royal Navy who served in the Gulf with HMS Northumberland.

During the course of a routine fitness session ET WE Lynch tore her hamstring on a treadmill and fell, severely injuring her hip. Such was the seriousness of her injury, Naomi underwent several surgeries and spent prolonged periods in hospital.

Supporting Wounded Veterans’ Pain Management Programme

Supporting Wounded Veterans’ Pain Management Programme run at, and in conjunction with, King Edward’s VII’s hospital, has now completed its first year of residential programmes. It is going from strength to strength, with on average 130 applications for every 10 places. We have also opened a Pain Clinic, where Veterans can come not only for advice on how to manage their pain, but also have a medication review.
