SSAFA – Case Study Officer/In-house Journalist

About the role

We are looking for an in-house journalist/Case Study Officer to craft original content which showcases our incredible charity and wins us national headlines.

You’ll be working on an array of stories and special projects from inception to finish. The role includes research, managing long-term relationships with our ‘case studies’, conducting interviews, writing stories, coordinating photoshoots and film-directing. You may also be required to attend events with our case studies to represent the charity (from receptions at the Houses of Parliament to film premiers).

Your work will be essential to showcasing what SSAFA does, and why it is so important. It is vital for fundraising, boosting our profile, recruiting volunteers, and ensuring those who need help come to us.

In this role you will travel the country capturing previously untold stories. You will be the person that makes sure they get heard.

About the team

You will be part of a friendly, supportive team (including Head of PR and Public Affairs and a Case Study Manager) that will help you every step of the way, but also empower you to take charge of your own work. 

The team is very experienced with backgrounds in PR, strategy and broadcast journalism and has extremely high standards. We have seen much success, with our stories regularly showcased in national press.

About you

This role would ideally suit someone with two years+ experience in multimedia journalism, though we are willing to accept applications from anyone who meets the following criteria:

  • Enthusiastic – has a passion for identifying and developing original stories
  • Has the stamina, determination, and confidence to pursue stories
  • Stoic and able to handle difficult subject matter
  • Empathetic with strong stakeholder management skills, building trust with our case studies
  • Can work at a fast pace and turnover content rapidly
  • Has keen attention to detail
  • Excellent time management, organised and able to work on multiple stories at once
  • Quick learner
  • Someone with understanding of the military is useful but not essential
  • Excellent written skills
  • Knowledge of privacy, contempt, and defamation law
  • Able to file and manage cases on database
