Location:      Winchester, Hampshire

Salary:           £34,500 per year (FTE £57,500)

                        3 days per week (22.5 hours)

The WRAC Association, formed in 1919, is a Service charity, supporting women who have served in the Army.  We do this by maintaining a thriving membership and by distributing benevolence grants.  We believe that service by women in the Army, should be celebrated, recognised and, when female veterans find themselves in need, we should be there to help.

The Role

The WRAC Association is at an exciting stage of its development where we are now looking at expanding our leadership team and strengthening our operational structures to enable us extend our membership, distribution of benevolence, influence and impact.

The COO will have significant influence in shaping this new post, to become a vital role in supporting the charity’s growth and sustainability.  With primary responsibility for implementing the strategic plan, the COO will be responsible for all operational matters and leading a small, dedicated team.   Reporting directly to the Vice President and the Board of Trustees, the role responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Leadership to draw up and deliver the strategic plan across the areas of Governance, Benevolence, Membership, Outreach, Engagement, Influence, Trustee Composition and Communications.
  • Having oversight of all operational matters.
  • Line Manager to a small, dedicated team.
  • Ensuring full compliance with the Charity Commission in all areas.
  • Oversight of PR, Marketing and Finance.
  • Liaising with external agencies as required to promote and sustain the influence of the Charity.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have previous experience of planning at the strategic level, whilst also being used to delivering across a broad range of areas at the operational level.
  • Demonstrate a level of knowledge about the Army.
  • Have a proven ability to interact positively and effectively with individuals from all levels and functions within the charity and with a variety of individuals and organisations external to the charity.
  • Possess strong organisational skills to handle high volumes of work in a fast-paced, changing environment, while maintaining excellent delivery and quality of performance.
  • Be IT and financially literate.
  • Have excellent oral and written communications skills to convey information clearly and effectively, together with solid listening skills to gather information for understanding.
